I really have always been a boho baby at heart.  My mom raised me on Janis Joplin and Led Zepplin, many of my romantic partners over the years have been in rock bands because I absolutely thought of myself as Penny Lane from "Almost Famous," and in college you could regularly find me hiking around in Colorado in a tie-dye skirt and sandals.

But as I evolved into the woman I am today, boho didn't seem to fit as my entire identity anymore.  (Arguably no one adjective should define your entire identity.)  As I came into my own, I realized that for me, it instead stood as a symbol of freedom, change, creativity, and breaking the mold.  And it's not always the right moment for it, but it seems like the world is feeling that time again and that suits me just fine.

Clockwise from top left:

  2. Tapestry tank from Nuevintage
  3. Maxi dress from Yet Luxxe

So here's my breakdown of how I'm doing boho this season while still keeping my to style of chill, modern, and classic.

First, pattern mixing.  I LOVE playing with patterns.  The key is to go all in.  Don't worry if it clashes or if you think you have too many patterns on at the same time.  All you need to worry about is giving the eye a place to rest.  So if the whole thing is a wild mix of patterns, it will all "go" and feel like one full look.  I especially love taking classic prints like florals and this great gingham dress from Rinkel Clothing Supply to give them a fresh eye.  Just play around with it!

If you know me at all you know I have a preoccupation with texture.  Adding different textures to your look can create depth, interest, and just make you feel cooler.  So my patent pants get a lot of play, especially when using them to make pieces like this vintage tapestry tank from Nuevintage feel modern.  The kick of blue doesn't hurt, either.

Lastly, probably my favorite boho vibe is the maxi dress.  But instead of going old school boho with a paisley print, go for a solid color or something that brings a new edge to it like this gorgeous gown from Yet Luxxe!

All in all, you know while we love fashion and trends are exciting, there are a few things to always keep in mind:

  1. Trends are not mandatory.  You're cool with or without them.
  2. Trends are ever present and ever cycling.  If your vibe is boho, chances are you're surrounded by a community that is rocking these looks all the time.  And that's great!
  3. Only jump on a trend if it feels like you and you can work it into your existing wardrobe.  Re-inventing yourself ever 6 months is not sustainable mentally or environmentally.
  4. Play with your clothes!  Find unique pieces from our designers that speak to you and make your wardrobe one of a kind.  Life's too short to wear boring clothes.
