It’s no secret that I love to source my wardrobe from all over. With that being said, I’m still quite picky about where my clothing is coming from. Rather, who it’s made by, under what circumstances, how it got to me, and what my money is actually paying for. Incorporating independent designer’s pieces into my every day wardrobe is an essential piece of my style puzzle. It allows me to support makers at the source, find unique pieces that no one else will have, and branch out to try new styles when designers I love drop new collections.
My key to styling an eclectic wardrobe is to (1) stick to a formula (2) invest in unique, good quality basics, and (3) always be diligent about buying items that truly embody my personal style.

One of the most versatile items you can own is a dress that fits you well, can be dressed up or down, and can be styled to fit whatever season it happens to be when you feel inspired to wear it. Cardiovascuwhore has this simple, sweet, white mini dress that fits all the criteria I mentioned, AND it’s adorned with a bitchy rhinestoned lobster for the girlies with a sense of humor. Now, this dress would be precious in the summer with sandals, sunnies, and a tote, but here we have her perfectly styled for the fall with a punchy red shrug, also by Cardiovascuwhore, and a pair of old chucks. Replace the chucks with tights and boots, throw on your emotional support leather jacket, and thats winter!
Now, going back to what I said about basics, nothing is more “basic” than a matching set, but who doesn’t love a matching set??? It’s practically three outfits in one, and that’s not counting how many ways there are to style it. As for this Revive set, it’s one of the very first independent designer pieces I invested in 3 years ago, and to this day one of my more worn. That’s because I bought this set with intention, with purpose, some might say, with a vision. To me, nothing beats denim. I said it! Give me a good pair of denim and I will wear them to the death. These jeans? I’ve worn just as pictured with a white tank and a statement shoe; tennis and a graphic tee; an ultra femme tank and kitten heels; a sweater and flats; and of course with it’s own matching jacket as a full set. The versatility is versatility-ing!!! Don’t even get me started on the matching jacket…it’s a two piece jacket within itself, I digress…just buy the matching set.
Moving on to the number one point I made from the jump: Stick to a formula!!! For me, personally, my formula is big pants and little top. That’s just what works for me and my body type the best. (I’m an apple, by the way). When I tell you, I saw those wide leg textured canvas pants come down the runway, I vowed right then and there to make RoninScar my first stop at Omaha Fashion Week’s Shop the Runway Sunday event. Hot Tip: the same combos as mentioned for the Revive pants work here too (you’re welcome to all my apple shaped girlies). Hence why that gorgeous little corset from MalekR. looks SO good styled with these pants. Big pants & little top superiority.
Finally, we’re reiterating the whole matching set thing, this time with a jaw dropping number by ThEnsō. I had a similar moment with these red metallic silk pants as I did with the RoninScar pants, but it took me a season to settle into it. When I’m not 100% sure about a purchase I always wait on it, go home, and envision styling 5 outfits with that piece with items I already own. This way I know without a doubt that it will fit into my closet and I’ll actually wear it. With a statement pant as loud as these, I had to be sure I would get that cost per wear down on them, and baby I am! Red always fits into my wardrobe, so really how could I have gone wrong? I absolutely love the story behind the collection these were a part of and even more so getting to directly support the designer herself.
And that’s that on that.
mwah!
