As we continue on our midwest fashion week tour, there is no shortage of creativity and expressionism being represented on and off the runways. "Trends" as we call them are, simply put, the themes of the season. Whether they are visual elements, embodied personas, or a collective shift in perspective.
The key to successfully incorporating trends into your wardrobe is to incorporate it in somewhere between your personal style and your aspirational style (ie. your true every day style, and the style you aim to portray).

When planning our outfits for our first time at Kansas City Fashion Week, ironically, it all started with Omaha Fashion Week...one look from a collection by Morgan Laboure that had Sami in a choke hold since the moment she laid eyes on it. A plaid mini dress layered over a flowing white lacy skirt and a snake skin hand-knitted shrug...nothing short of a dream.
Mixed patterns, a variety of textures, and classic silhouettes were to be the vehicle that executes our complimentary, yet juxtaposed looks for the weekend.
Not only is plaid hot on many runways around the world this season, it just so happens to be a pattern that Sami + Heather already rep in their personal styles! Being able to pull "basics" from our wardrobe -- which were all secondhand and vintage, might we add -- to dress up this motif, made it feel authentic to ourselves, while being conscious of the current themes in the global fashion industry.

From there it was all a no brainer. Heather's love of suiting is often echoed during the colder seasons, and though it's still quite warm, a suit is suitable in every season. To spice it up, she placed a corset from MalekR. over top and viola! Sami opted for the previously mentioned flowing white lacy skirt from Laboure, paired with a simple, yet elegant draped cotton tee also by the designer; the perfect element to bring such an ethereal piece back down to earth.
Can't wait to showcase more trends and designers on our next stop on the Midwest fashion week tour! Stay tuned.
